Our Children

Paul, Dawn, Miranda and Jordan live in O'Fallon, Illinois, near St. Louis, where Paul is stationed at Scott Air Force Base. Paul is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force and a recipient of the Bronze Star for his extraordinary performance in the Iraq war. He served for three years as a Presidential Advance Agent with Air Force One and has served as Executive Officer for a General at Scott AFB. He is currently deployed in Kuwait for a 6-month stint. Dawn completed her degree a couple of years ago and works in an administrative capacity at an elementary school near their home. Miranda is fifteen years old and is in the ninth grade.  Jordan is eleven and is in the sixth grade.

John and Sarah live in Chicago and are the proud parents of Avery Jane, born January 29, 2007. John is President/CEO of Senior Lifestyle Corporation, which owns health care facilities across the U. S.  Sarah completed her MBA at the Kellogg School at Northwestern University in 2006, then suspended her career  to become a full-time mom.  She recently was named the Executive Director of Neighborhood Parents Network of Chicago.  They have a lovely new urban home in the Lakeview area of Chicago.

Mark and Sue are located in Denver, Colorado. They have embarked on an entrepreneurial venture, producing Resort Maps for four locations in Colorado. Their first year working together was quite successful. Also, Mark is now working with a college managing their recruiting function. They are both intensely interested in the outdoors and spend all their free time camping, hiking, fishing and skiing. Soon, life for them will change a bit.  They're expecting a new daughter (to be named Allison, we think) in October!  Mark and Sue love life in Colorado and have tons of friends out there.

Our Families

Back in Mississippi - Keith and Dot both grew up in in the same hometown in Mississippi (literally within two blocks on the same street), and most of the immediate family is still located there. The closest relatives are:

  • Bayne, Keith's father, who recently celebrated his 92nd birthday. Frances, his wife of almost 62 years, passed away Thanksgiving weekend in 2001.
  • Sandy Vance, Keith's sister.
  • Dick and Louise Rauenhorst, Dot's oldest sister.
  • Charles and Betty Hill, Dot's only brother.
  • Ovid and Jeanie Kimbrough, Dot's sister.
  • Jere and Polly York, Dot's sister. (They actually live in North Carolina, but Polly visits in Mississippi from time to time.)

Business

Keith has been active in the business world for over 40 years. Although technically "retired", he remains quite active as a private investor and as a consultant and strategic advisor to a variety of businesses. He teaches corporate finance in the MBA program at Nova Southeastern University twice each year. He also serves on several corporate boards, including three New York Stock Exchange companies and one private company. His resume at this website describes his business background and interests.

Friends

We are fortunate to have a long list of terrific friends that we have developed over the years, and we are quite involved with them.  They represent a broad spectrum of society in South Florida, as well as other places we have lived such as Baltimore and Philadelphia.  Much of our social life centers around our friends in community organizations, the Lauderdale Yacht Club and the First Presbyterian Church.  We travel with some of our friends from time to time, attend social gatherings in our community, host functions in our home and generally just look for ways to stay connected with this valuable network of close associations.

Our Community

We have been very much involved in our community over the years and invest considerable time with a variety of community organizations. Our main focus over the past few years has been with the United Way of Broward County, the Broward Public Library Foundation, the Museum of Art and the Community Foundation of Broward. Over the years we have been supporters and workers in numerous other organizations, including the Museum of Discovery and Science, cultural and arts organizations and health and human services causes. In 2006 we were quite honored to received the prestigious national Alexis de Tocqueville Award, recognizing our support and work for the United Way in various communities over a period of 40 years. We are also quite involved in our church, First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale and both have significant leadership roles there.

Travel

We have spent quite a lot of time traveling in recent years, something we both enjoy very much.  We really love experiencing the wide diversity of the world in which we live.  Over the past several years, we have traveled to Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Africa, the Seychelles, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, England, Germany, France, Italy,  Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Austria, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, China and Tibet.  In all we have visited over 50 countries over the years.  We also still enjoy traveling across the United States and have spent some fun times in the Great Lakes area, Colorado, New England and the far west.  Our immediate goal is to visit the three remaining states where we have not been.  There still remains a long list of places we want to go.

Music

Since our early days growing up, we've both been interested in music.  We have a grand piano and a Clavinova electronic keyboard sitting in our living room, which we both play (in different styles), and we have a house full of other instruments and sheet music.
